For months I’d been wanting to sign up for a cake decorating class, to fill in some of the holes that my pastry classes left. Also, since i am Maid of Honour AND Wedding Cake Baker/Decorator Extraordinaire for my sister’s upcoming wedding, I can use a bit of help.
Finally there was a 6-week block of classes, happening for 4 hours each Sunday, so I got the OK from my chef (so that I wouldn’t be scheduled during that time) and signed up. The first class was pretty basic – how to make buttercream, how to fill a piping bag (ho hum) and then soon enough we got into the fun stuff….like learning the horrendous buttercream rose. Ick, SO HARD. If practice makes perfect, I’ll be needing a lot of practice on these suckers.
The class itself is fun. All girls in mid 20’s and 30’s I’d say, one guy, and the teacher.
first attempt at the horrendous rose. The icing gets a bit raggedy after it’s been overworked, which it was, but this still does not account for the fact that this rose could certainly be called many other names.
