I follow a few vancouver foodie blogs, one of which had mentioned this neat new concept of flash-mob style dinner parties (read about it here). Operated by the owners of salt and one of their other gastropubs, ‘alfresco vancouver’ is an invite-only dinner party where 40 guests dine potluck style in a way that joins like-minded foodies over local fare, at a very public yet secretive venue.
This photo was from the first event last month, where a crepe-paper table was set up and illuminated with lanterns, for 40 strangers to dine on the grass at a local park. I signed up to be on the email list and on thursday night when i checked my email at 2am found an invite to the next one this coming wednesday. I got 2 spots! Tomorrow (tuesday) will be sent an email with the location, and I just have to decide what to bring. Dessert, naturally. I have a gigantic zucchini from my mother’s overloaded garden, so perhaps a chocolate zucchini bundt cake? Any other suggestions of potluck-friendly fare? I have lots of peaches begging to be used as well. Perhaps a peach tarte tatin?
