Last Sunday was our 6th and final cake class. We were to bring a two tier cake, a few pounds of fondant, and some ideas of what we’d like to create.
My sister is getting married next August, and she has asked me to do their cake. This was part of the motivation for taking this class, and so it seemed fitting to do my final cake as a mock up of what they think they may like.
Their wedding colours will be avocado green and dark brown, with white dahlias. They want vine-inspired dots,, green leaves, and white dahlias on the cake itself. Leaving cake class, Safeway didn’t have dahlias but did have carnations, so use your imagination. I only had leaf green food colouring, so again, you’ll just have to imagine it as a classier green (not so bright).
It was strange not to go to cake class this past Sunday, but I am happy to my afternoons to myself again. Perhaps I will take the gum paste class sometime, but for now, this gave me a good head start on my official Maid of Honour/Cake Designer/Baker duties, as we covered a lot of techniques that pastry school didn’t go over. There are a lot of designs I would like to play with, so if you or someone you knows needs a cake, pleases keep me in mind! (And yes, they taste good too. This cake was pumpkin spice on the bottom, and almond hazelnut on top, with cream cheese icing. Yum!)
